GERMAN POOR TRY TO SELL CHILDREN TO MOVIES Berlin. UP) Tales of Chinese fathers and mothers selling their offspring in order to buy a few morsels of food for themselves were conjured up by recent reports in the provincial papers of poor people offering to sell their children. These reports were at first skeptically received. But the Society for the Protection of Children Against Abuse came out with the startling statement that within in a year numerous children had been offered for rale to the society at prices usually ranging between $750 and $1,000. The officers of the society, investigating this strange condition in twentieth century Germany, where family ties are supposed to be closer knit than in most countries, found that the cue was a rumor that a film company wanted pretty, gifted children at from 3,000 to 4.000 marks each.

The society had the greatest difficulty in convincing these speculators in childhood that traffic in human bsings was strictly prohibited in Germany and that no film company in the country would pay more than a very nominal salary for the work of the most exceptional child and that only to parents who retained possession of the young screen star. The first prize "fight in America was between Jacom Hyer and Tom Beasley, in 1816. Place throughout the summer and many boys' camp opened on June 28 and 2 Si. 4 rT2 1 1 By HAL E. WALKEE (Associated Press Correspondent) Rio De Janeiro VP) The myth of a tribe of "blond Indians" on a tributary of the Guapore river, along the boundary of Brazil and Bolivia, has been exploded by J.

Tozzi Calvao, Brazilian explorer. The existence Of this tribe was first reported by Lt. Col. P. H.

Fawcett, the British traveler, who met an undetermined fate in the northern jungle country In May, 1925. Col. Fawcett. however, never saw them and was, in fact, trying to find the mythical tribe when he disappeared. Calvao.

who is widely known In the United States, has spent nine months coursing the rivers and jungles of Brazil as assistant to General Candldo Rondon. who hfis been checking Uis boundaries of this country with Ven ezuela. Peru, Colombia and Bolivia. General Rondon with a cinema op erator is now checking boundaries with Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay, and will not return to Rio de Janeiro for three more months. "The blue-eyed and red-haired Indians, supposed descendants of a party of European adventurers, have been talked about from time to time among Indian tribes, and I believe that these tales were the basis of Fawcett's particular story," Calvao said on his.

return here. "General Rondon made special inquiries and he Is Indian himself, but we could discover no truth in the blond story either in the Guapore section or anywhere else. There are 'light' Indians in Brazil, those who live In the great forests, where they have little sunshine, but their hair and eyes are as dark as the plains Indians." The Rondon party besides the gen eral and Calvao, included the general's son, Benjamin Rondon, a topographical engineer: Lieutenant J. Carlos Gertun, Brazilian medical corps; Major Luis T. Reyes, chief photographer, and his assistant, Jose Louro.

It was on October 10 of last year that the party started from Cuyaba, capital of the state of Matto Grosso, in motors over the plains. They did 700 miles in this way before taking to canoes. Later they used launches, river steamers ana horses, changeing means of transportation as they headed up small rivers or passed into bigger ones. They went down the Araguaya to the Tocantins and into the Amazon I at Para. Nine hundred miles up the Amazon and Rio Negro they came to Manaos, once the rubber capital of the world, then continued up the Rio Negro 600 miles to the Venezuelan I border.

I After inspecting the boundary markers they returned to Manaos and up the Solimoes to Peru, doing 900 miles on this river. Always they had to come back to the Amazon and start up another river, following it as it grew smaller, first by river steamer, then launch, and lastly Indian canoe. In this way they traveled on the rivers Araguaya, Tocantins, Guaoore, Negro. Solimoes. Purus, Acre, Abuna, Madera and Mamore.

After Peru they came down the Bolivian border by horse and 300 miles by launch on the Paraguay river to Corumba. Matto Grosso, where the party broke up. In the nine months they traveled nearly two-thirds the distance of the earth's circumference, and nearly all by waterways, but did not have a single day of sickness. They reported that at the Ford plantation at Boa. Pocono Pines Evan Walters.
