JOLLY BILL ROMA: Catasauqua Bill Roma, Charotm Fire Co.

prexy Is a great fellow for the kids. He likes to take them on excursions and when he does, he wants to see them have (rood time. On Sunday Bill took some young-ters to Philadelphia to see the AthT letics and Yankees divide a double header. When a concession man came along selling souvenir baseball caps Bill yelled "hey you. let's have eight pf those." He thought the chap had said they were a quarter a piece and fie tendered a (2 bill.

"Ten dollars please: the caps are 125 each," said the vendor. The eight kids had the caps on their heads by this time. Bill was game. He passed over the ten-spot and never even let on that the caps were proving more expensive than he had an ticipated. PIG CATCHING CONTEST: No iooner had the excitement incident to the impromptu rodeo at Germans-ville died down than something else happened to add zest to living in the Heidelberg township community.

Ralph Phillip Miller's pigs broke out of the piggery and they proved al most as difficult to capture as Russ Etoudt five wild steers. The biggest one, a boar named Jum bo, headed for George Herber's vegetable garden and rooted up a couple of rows of potatoes. They were finally rounded up with the aid of Earle Sterner, Woodrow Fink. George Kerschner and Charlie Reeser. Ralph says they became frightened when they saw Dr.

Weaver stop at the place. THE GROL'NDHOG HUNTERS: There is a lot of friendly rivalry among the groundhog hunters in the upper nd of Lehigh. It is already definitely certain that all previous records will be broken. On Independence Day Larry Bitt-rer of Germansville passed the 60 mark. Larry of course is an experienced nimrod.

When he goes for foxes he "brings 'em back alive." Charlie Reichl has been hunting the 'chucks in the hills of Lowhill township for better than a quarter century. In former years he used to provide the 'chucks for dinners at the Allge-meiner and Weber's hotel. This year he team up with John Reamer and the two have been passing along their kills to friends as rapidly as they get them, because of the meat shortage. Thev did not keep tabs of what they killed. Bill Minnich, the boss of the 16th ard sportsmen and his crew of three are busy accumulating' enough 'chucks for a banquet at the Fearless Fire Co.

Bill knows from past experience that it will take plenty. They also hunt the Claussville-Leather Corner Post sector. Another crack shot who is also keeping his friends supplied with 'chuck meat is Constable Lewis Everett of Lowhill. He is well past the 50 mark by this time. Paul Hollenbach keeps on trying but he is not yet hitting the mark.

Paul recently fired three shots at one proundhog. After he fired the last hot the 'chuck turned slowly around and disappeared in her hole. THE WINNER: Herbie Wagner's 10th ward club defeated Johnny Fischers twirlers on Independence Day by a 13-3 score. The stake was a half barrel of hard-to-get beer. However there was none passed out to the players while the game was on.

Herbie regaled his men with candy and Jchnny bought ice cream for his men. C. W. E. Combination Auction Sale AT Farmersville Exchange On Route 22.
