Touches of lace, ruffles and flounces are everywhere. White col lars, often embroidered and edged in lace, can make last year's dress look like new. Add sparkle and glitter wherever you can.

Lastly, add a ruffled lace-trimmed petticoat to wear with those full skirts, or add a flounce of eyelet trim to your existing skirts to make this a fun and happy season. You can duplicate almost anything you see in the catalogs, magazines and in ready-to-wear. It takes a little time but will save you lots of money when you do it yourself. Besides, you will have the fun of having your very own designer original. DEAR EUNICE FARMER I love your column because you give us tips on making our clothes look more professional (tips that all home sewers need desperately).

However, I especially want to thank you for your fashion tips that we also need so our clothes don't have "that loving hands at home" look. My question is: What is a I have seen this word used so often this spring, and I assume it means some kind of camisole bodice, please tell me. Lucie T. DEAR LUCIE A "bustier" is a French word for a very fitted, strapless top with feather boning used on all the seams to keep its shape. It could actually be worn under sheer or lace blouses; however, this season it is worn as a bodice over full or straight skirts.

It's best to line your bustier for a more finished look as well as giving it extra shaping. Today's pattern is Vogue 9588 and is cut from size 6 to 16. DEAR EUNICE FARMER I find so many wonderful border prints and embroidered borders in the fabric shop, but can never seem to know just exactly what type of skirt would look best in this fabric. I prefer an A-line skirt, but know this wouldn't work with a border. Would you please give ns one of your pattern suggestions? Olivia B.

DEAR OLIVIA There are a great many patterns that would do nicely, just avoid skirts with gores that nave a decided flare at the hem. The skirt should be cut almost straight at the side seams. I have selected Vogue 9754 for several reasons. First, it comes with a skirt pattern that is cut fairly straight and narrow, as well as one that has unpressed pleats and shows two different lengths. The skirt is so easy to make because it has an opening in the pocket (no zipper), and unpressed pleats are flattering to everyone.

This is a perfect pattern for quick summer skirts. Have you checked the prices of ready-to-wear? Many of the skirts that cost $60 and more can be made for less than $20 in wonderful fabrics and in an evening's time. This week's winner of the Sim-Flex accurate measuring gauge for the sewing tip of the week is Jan Fosher of St. Louis, Missouri. Her tip: "I found that if I loosened the screw on my seam guide attachment, I could slide it at an angle and it is perfect for keeping those curved areas nice and accurate." (Thanks to all of you who sent in similar tips.) You could win a Sim-Flex accurate measuring gauge.

Send your sewing tips to Eunice Farmer, in care of The Morning Call, P.O. Box 1260, Allentown, 18105. If she selects your tidbit for publication Mrs. Farmer will send you the Sim-Flex. Lehigh County Vo-Tech Continuing Education Dept.
