WAGNER Claire I. Wagner, 71, of Palm Bay, formerly of Sparta, N.J., died Jan. 28 in Holmes Regional Hospital, Melbourne, Fla. She was employed as a tax clerk for Sparta Town Hall. Born in Easton, she was a daughter of the late William and Pearl (Snook) Kichfine.

SCHOENK Elizabeth M. "Betty" Schoenk, 81, of Allentown, died Jan. 27 in St. Vincent's Medical Center, Portland, Ore. She was the wife of the late William A.

Schoenk. She was a school crossing guard for the City of Allentown for more than 22. years before retiring in 1976. Born in Bath, she was a daughter of the late George Mahfouz Youwakim and Mary (Kahl) Muffet. She was a member of St.

George Antiochan Orthodox Church, Allentown, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a lifeguard and taught handicapped swimming lessons at William Allen High School for more than 20 years. She was awarded the outstanding citizen's award by the Patriots of Allentown auxiliary. She was a candy striper and gray lady for Allentown Hospital. Survivors: Sons, William A.

SCHUBERT Charles L. Schubert, 73, of Morgan Hill, formerly of Bethlehem, died Jan. 27 in his home. He was employed by the Defense Department in San Jose, for 12 years before retiring in 1995. Previously, he worked for Xerox Corp.

in California and New Jersey and for the former Western Electric Allentown. Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the 1 late Richard M. and Helen S. (Radel) Schubert. He was a Protestant.

He was a Marine Corps veteran. GEORGE W. SWARTZ SR. George W. Swartz 84, formerly of High Street, Hellertown, died Jan. 28 in Saucon Valley Manor, Hellertown.

He was the husband of Mildred R. (Rhoads) Swartz. They were married for 63 years last April. He was a brakeman for the Philadelphia, Bethlehem New England Railroad at the Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 34 years before retiring in 1978.

Born in Stowe, he was a son of the late Charles H. and Minnie (Rickert) Swartz. He was a Protestant. Survivors: Wife; sons, George W. Jr.

and David both of Bethlehem, Jeffrey A. of Allentown; daughter, Shirley A. Weaver of Bethlehem; 10 grandchildren, four greatgrandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sarah J. Reccek, in 1992.

JANE ALDRICH KING Jane Aldrich King, 83, of Dawsonville, formerly of Allentown, died Jan. 29 in her home. She was the wife of the late Thompson King Jr. She and her husband owned and operated Thompson King Atlanta, Ga. During World War II, she worked for the Red Cross.

Born in Allentown, she was a Protestant. Survivors: Daughter, Jane K. Estes and Shelley K. Jackson, both of Dawsonville; brother, David K. Aldrich of Macungie; three grandchildren.

Kuehner, 85, formerly of Palmer Township, died Jan. 27 in Moravian Hall Square Retirement Community, Nazareth. She was the wife of the late Rev. Fred C. Kuehner.

She was an author of various Sunday school publications for the American Sunday School Union, Philadelphia, and a nursery school teacher in the Philadelphia area. She received an associate's degree in early childhood education from Manor Junior College, Philadelphia. Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Otto W. and Barbara (Traeger) Deichen. She attended Palmer Moravian Community Church, Palmer Township, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Women's Circle.

She was a member of the Women's Board of Easton Hospital and the Garden Club, Easton. Survivors: Daughters, Joanna R. Sanferrare of Merrimacport, Lois H. Wildrick of Palmer Township; three grandchildren. Memorial services: 11 a.m.

ALICE B. HERR Alice Beck Herr, 79, of Willow Valley Manor North, Willow Street, Lancaster County, died Jan. 28 in The Glen at Willow Valley. She was the wife of Richard F. Herr, who died in 1996.

She taught art in public schools for six years and was employed by the Bureau of Interior Design of Armstrong World Industries before retiring. She was a graduate of Syracuse University with a degree in fine arts and of the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in education. Born in Nazareth, she was a daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Sem Grim Beck.

She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, where she was on the flower committee and was a former member of the consistory. She was a member of the Lancaster Cliosophic Society, the Delta Gamma Sorority, the Hamilton Club and Lancaster County Club. She was an exhibitor and member of Echo Valley Art Club. She was a Red Cross volunteer for Lancaster General Hospital, Survivors: Sons, Daniel C.

BETTY J. STRYKER Betty J. Stryker, 74, of Allentown, died Jan. 28 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. She was the wife of LeRoy L.

Stryker. They were married for 52 years last April. She was a packager for the former Pal-Pak Allentown, for several years before retiring in 1996. Born in Macungie, she was a daughter of the late William H. and Mary A.

24 in Sacred Heart Assisted Living, Northampton. She was the wife of the late Blaine Ettinger. She was a seamstress for Bangor Clothing Co. for 20 years before retiring. Born in Martins Creek, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Elmira Brodt.

WILLIAM A. SMITH William A. Smith, 83, of Second Street, Wind Gap, died Jan. 29 in Community Health Systems Hospital, Easton. He was the husband of Thelma (Broad) Smith for 59 years.

He was a millwright for Bethlehem Steel for 18 years before retiring in 1983. Previously, he was a freightcar man for the Philadelphia, Bethlehem New England Railroad for 24 years. He was a member of United Steelworkers of America Local 2599. Born in Bath, he was a son of the late Harry and Elizabeth (Kitchin) Smith. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Wind Gap.

He was an Army medic in the 14th Armored Division in World War II and a member of American Legion Post 724, Wind Gap. He was a former member of the Wind Gap school board and a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Car Men. Survivor: Wife; son, W. Richard of Richmond, daughter, Janis Goldman of Langhorne, Bucks County; five grandchildren, four greatgrandchildren. Services: 11 a.m.

EVANS James P. Evans, 76, of Whitehall Township, died Jan. 29 in the hospice unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Pauline D. (Derhammer) Evans.

He was a toll collector for the Delaware River Joint Bridge Commission for 10 years before retiring in 1995. Previously, he was a molder in the iron foundry of Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 30 years before retiring in 1979. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Arthur and Grace (Newhard) Evans. He was a member of Cedar Lutheran Church, Cetronia.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korea War. Survivors: Wife; son, James A. of Quantico, sisters, Lucille Newhart of Villanova, Delaware County, Jeanette Schafer of Wilmington, three grandchildren. Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Trexler Funeral Home, 1625 Highland Allentown.

Blose, 71, of New Richmond, died Jan. 24 in his home. He was the husband of Kathryn (Shannon) Blose. Born in Slatedale, he was a son of the late Nevin and Carrie (Zellmer) Blose. Survivors: Wife; daughter, Barbara Heimbach of Alburtis; stepdaughter, Sharon Courter of Marlboro, N.J.; a granddaughter, two stepgrandchildren.

27 in Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton. He was the husband of Connie L. (Oettle) Biederman. He was a sewing machine mechanic, last employed by Hamilton-Curtain in phia for 10 years, before retire. ing in 1983.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Frederick and Elizabeth (Hofaker) Biederman. He was a Christian. He was a Navy veteran World War II, serving as an aviator in the Pacific Theater, and' a prisoner of war after being shot down over Bougainville. He was a member of Carbon Lodge 242, Lilly Chapter 181 and Packer Commandery Masonic Lodge, all of Jim Thorpe, and Rajah Shrine, Reading. He was former president of.

BONITA A. STEIGERWALT Bonita Ann "Bonnie" Steigerwalt, 50, of New Ringgold R.1, died Jan. 29 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. She was the wife Gary L. Steigerwalt for 31 years.

She was employed by the former Brockton Sportswear. Brockton, Schuylkill County Morgan Knitting Mills, Tamaqua, the dietary department Hometown Nursing Center, and in the kitchen of the former TJ Barts, Hometown. Born in Mary-D, Schuylkill County, she was a daughter of Beatrice (Stemler) Kotchmar of Mary-D and the late Joseph Kotchmar. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Mantzville, Schuylkill County.

IKE J. ZYLSTRA Ike J. Zylstra, 81, of Richlandtown, formerly of Durham Township, Bucks County, died Jan. 29 in the home of his daughter, Linda Z. Cressman of Quakertown.

He was the husband of Elizabeth Walters, who died in 1993. Owner and operator of Zylstra's Produce, he sold at a roadside stand in Riegelsville for 42 years, Rice's Market in the New Hope area for 50 years, Quakertown Farm Mafket, and Philadelphia. He was also a bus driver for the Palisades School District for about five years. In the winter, he plowed snow for Durham Township. Born in Paterson, N.J., he was a son of the late Jacob and Tjalkje (DeYoung) Zylstra.

He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Riegelsville, and a past consi tory president of the Durhant Reformed Congregation. Survivors: Daughter; son, John J. of Quakertown; broth er, Egbert J. of Richlandtown; three grandchildren.
