Catasauqua School Union To Expand Continued from Page 5 leased last night by the board, action will definitely be taken to solve the problem of overcrowded facilities in the schools. Catasauqua Union District this year has an enrollment of 808 children in the grades from kindergarten through sixth. A proper ratio, as outlined by the State el Department of Education, dictates these children should be housed classrooms. chat, There are 23 available.

It has been necessary for a the district to rent two rooms to accommodate kindergarten classes. Projected enrollment for the next (1956-1957) term indicates the need for one additional room, or 28 classrooms in the elementary grades. And in three years, according to population studies, 30 elementary classrooms will be needed. It is estimated by school officials that by the time the 1958-1959 school term gets under way, at least one of the classrooms of the Lincoln Building will have to be used for high school classes. All of the Lincoln Building is now devoted to elementary grades.

The high school this year has an I enrollment of 590 students school officials say, and is able to vide the minimum required program. It will be impossible to do even this they feel, as increased elementary enrollments advance to high school. The evaluating committee of the Commission on Secondary Schools, in its report last December, suggested improvements in the high school science department, the laboratory, domestic science rooms, shops, art room and cafeteria facilities. Members of the Board of Education last night said they could not foresee what the recommendation of the building committee will be. They said, however, that they are prepared to act after hearing the report.

Invited to the special session, in addition to representatives of Everett Associates will be Hobart A. Farber, Lehigh County superintendent of schools. He will be asked for opinions after hearing the building committee's report. Walnutport Seeks Dumping Ground Walnutport Borough Council, at a meeting last night, authorized solicitor Jerome Burkepile Jr. to purchase an abandoned slate quarry property in Lehigh Township.

"I don't think older people can feel emptiness as long as they use the abilities they have," she said.

"I have always had so many interests in my life, that I always had more to do than time to do it Mrs. Roosevelt noted that many older women feel "lost" when their children grow up and move away. "I think the answer is that every woman should develop her own abilities in the years when she is bringing up her she suggested. "Then when she has more time in later life she knows what her abilities are and can use them for an occupation and an interest in life to counterbalance the emptiness when her children are gone." Mrs. Roosevelt advised older women to take up civic, cultural, religious or charitable work "whatever best suits their Mrs.

Roosevelt, who wore a plain gray dress and pearls during the private interview in her Miami tel apartment, expressed sympathy for those older people who have not had an opportunity to prepare themselves for the years after retirement. One difficulty, she said, was that the business world has set arbitrary retirement deadlines. "You can't set a deadline for retirement," she declared, "and I think we've made a mistake in doing so. Each person must arrange his life according to his capacity, and the 'retirement' age for each person must be judged as an individual case. Many people can still develop their abilities when they grow older.

Mrs. Roosevelt concluded by reemphasizing her own plans after her 71st birthday: "As long as one can use the abilities one has, there is no sense of retirement."
